The Eastern Airport Group and the Western Airport Group signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Nanjing on wednesday to jointly build an important air passenger and cargo hub under the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly promote the construction of Jiangsu Shaanxi Expressway by opening new flight routes, optimizing the flight schedule and aircraft types, and strive to increase the number of Xi'an-Nanjing routes to 15 flights per day by 2020 to cover all the airports under the supervision of both groups.
The two sides will also carry out marketing publicities on their international routes, and strive to open international routes from Xi'an via Nanjing to North America/Japan and Korea and Nanjing via Xi'an to West Asia/Europe by 2020. At the same time, they have agreed on the promotion of the development of aviation logistics on both sides.
The Eastern Airport Group, which was inaugurated on September 15 this year, is spearheaded by Nanjing Lukou International Airport with controlling stakes by six airports in Xuzhou, Changzhou and elsewhere.
The Western Airport Group is one of the largest inter-provincial and large-scale airport management groups in the country. It is responsible for the construction, management and operation of 18 civil airports and 3 navigation airports in Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai.
