JSBC has launched series coverage on the success stories of ten counties, ten towns, ten villages and ten enterprises in Jiangsu to showcase the great achievements the province has achieved since the country’s reform and opening up 4 decades ago. In today’s program, we will introduce to you the overall great successes Yixing County has achieved over the past four decades.
Academician Chen Jian’s Workstation, launched in collaboration with Jiangsu Guoxin Association Energy Co., Ltd, has come up with its latest citric acid manufacturing process that has matured and is about to be transformed for industrialization.
Located in Yixing Economic and Technology Development Zone, Guoxin started in May this year to forge partnership with Jiangnan University on the launch of Academician Chen Jian’s Workstation.
It was not long before the workstation started to produce new projects of high efficiency one after another.
New processes and new varieties spearheaded by citric acid have reduced the cost per ton of citric acid by 300 yuan. Without increasing energy consumption, the company has reduced the production capacity by 30%, effectively mitigating the price increase of raw materials this year. The company has become the city's first taxpayer and entered the higher-end citric acid-derived biotechnology field in the industrial chain, ranking among the top five citric acid manufacturing companies in the world.
In the early stage of reform and opening up, Yixing seized the opportunities to vigorously develop township enterprises, and achieved the first leap of industrial development, making it one of the birthplaces of the "Southern Jiangsu Model."
In the new century, especially in recent years, Yixing has established a strategy of strengthening the city through industrial development by starting from cultivating the innovation ability of enterprises, and actively creating a "green channel for integration of production, education and research" to help enterprises establish comprehensive cooperative relations with 27 universities including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and Fudan University. The county-level city now registers 7 academician workstations, and 13 state-level postdoctoral workstations.
With the support of a series of policies, Yixing's has continued to expand the scale of emerging industries while traditional industries have maintained steady growth. In 2017, the city's total economic aggregate reached 155.825 billion yuan, a 418-fold increase over 1978, standing for an average annual growth rate of 16.9%. The per capita disposable income of the urban residents has also increased from 260 yuan in 1978 to nearly 50,000 yuan.
