Canada became one of the 12 Guests of Honor to the first China International Import Expo held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10.

Among the ten companies representing Canada in the expo, three were members of Jiangsu International Business Association of Canada (JSIBAC). Canadian companies engaged in a wide range of industries, including energy, machinery manufacturing, finance, education, transportation, catering, timber, agricultural and livestock products, seafood and healthcare.

“The Chinese market means infinitely large demand and vitality to us. It is an indispensably strategic region and a strong driving force for the rapid development of our company,” said Jiang Rui, president of JSIBAC and also president of Menergy Corporation.

As a representative of exhibitors from Ontario, Canada, Jiang also said that “by participating in the expo, I hope to have more and deeper contacts with customers from all over China, so that our products and technologies can serve across the country. As our enterprise strives to become a leader in energy-saving and environmental protection, we also want to better serve China's strategies of energy conservation and environmental protection."

The expo attracted more than 3,600 companies and 160,000 buyers from more than 130 countries around the world. For Canadian companies, this is a good opportunity to understand and enter the Chinese market and also of great significance for promoting Canada-China economic and trade cooperation.

For the prospect of economic and trade ties between the two countries, Jiang said that good relationships between Canada and China are in the long-term interests of the two governments and the people. It is expected that the two countries will start negotiations on the FTA as soon as possible and push the economic and trade relations to a higher level, according to Jiang.
