Nearly 30 media practitioners from 18 media units of 15 countries and regions participated the 2018 “Hi Jiangsu” Media Camp that was organized by the Information Office of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and China Daily. They are currently having a one-week trip to different cities across Jiangsu and having their own interviews to understand further about local cultures and overall development.

The first stop is north Jiangsu’s Suqian city. What wonders did they find here? Let’s take a look!

Suqian is known as the hometown of liquors. To foreign correspondents from all over the world, Baijiu or white wine is a mysterious drink with a history of more than one thousand years. As a result, the first stop in Suqian is the factory of "China's famous wine" – Yanghe Distillery.

As soon as you enter the Yanghe Distillery, the smell of wine is something you can’t ignore wherever you go. They even have a saying here that goes like “birds of this region can drink some”. Pottery jar cellar, Beauty spring, brewing workshop, 72-degree raw liquor, historical legends, century-old wine cellar… The reporters were elated and intoxicated.

After tasting the raw liquor, Columnist Wilson FLORES from Philippine Star gave the thumbs-up and expressed his first experience of Yanghe wine in Chinese: “It was smooth and comfortable, didn’t burn that much."

The wine-tasting party also became an occasion where people share their different customs and cultures about wine. IM Eun Byel from Korea Herald raised the empty glass over her head and waved back, telling us it was South Korean way of saying “Gan Le”, which means “I finished my drink”.

In addition to the history of wine culture, Shuyang county’s e-commerce also amazed many of the foreign friends.

At 8:30 a.m., Jiang Aihua, an online host and owner of a banzai garden, announced to her fans in the studio: “There will be people from all over the world coming to my garden today. Don't leave!” As soon as the foreign friends arrived, she introduced them to her audience online. She believed that foreign faces might help her sell more banzai products.

Enrique SERBETO, a reporter for the Spanish newspaper ABC, found the format of broadcasting very clever, "It gives people a better idea of what they want to buy, and I would like to bring that experience to my country. This, I think, it's a very good form for selling agriculture."

Jiang Aihua’s online store is only one of the 35, 000 online stores that sell flowers and trees. In Shuyang, 243 flowers and trees are sent from here to all parts of the country every minute, with annual sales of up to $10 billion.

Enrique was shocked to hear that the plants had no spare capacity to supply exports because of the huge domestic demand. "As far as I can remember, Chinese goods are exported to all over the world. Now I know that the original China's domestic demand is so huge, which let me see a different China."
