The park is now home to 21 Sino-foreign cooperative innovation centers and nearly 500 R&D institutions.
The monumental changes and splendid achievements have been attributed to the signing in 1994 between the Chinese and Singaporean governments on the Agreement on Cooperation in the Development and Construction of Suzhou Industrial Park.
The SIP authorities have continuously emancipated the mind and reformed the institutional mechanisms by launching one innovative project after another, such as the country’s first export-oriented processing zone, the country’s first Sino-foreign school and the first comprehensive bonded zone in the country.
A large number of foreign-funded enterprises have not only introduced industry and capital, but also brought regional headquarters and R&D centers to promote the coordinated development of high-level openness and high-level innovation in the industrial park.
In 2006, Suzhou Industrial Park became the only national economic development zone and national high-tech zone in the country.

Over the past three years, Suzhou Industrial Park has risen to the fifth place in the national high-tech zone ranking, becoming one of the most internationally representative regions in the world's eight micro-nano fields. It has also become a biomedical industry park with the strongest innovation capability, the most complete industrial chain and the fastest growth rate in the country.
On October 31, Innovento Bio Co. Ltd, a firm in Suzhou Industrial Park, was listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. This is the first bio-pharmaceutical company independently cultivated by Suzhou and the fourth in the country to be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Innovation has brought about a continuous development dividend. The two leading industries of electronic information and machinery manufacturing in the park have continued to move toward the middle and high-end. The three emerging industries of biomedicine, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology application have posted an average annual growth rate of 30%.
The industrial park is now home to 875 new and hi-tech firms, including 18 listed companies and 41 antelope firms recognized by the South Jiangsu National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone.
In March of this year, the park authority made active response to the requirements of the 19th National Congress on innovation by launching a "package of new policies" in encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, optimizing the system of science and technology, and accelerating the construction of a world-class high-tech industrial park.
Anchoring this goal, Suzhou Industrial Park is taking independent innovation as the core strategy of regional development, integrating into the world economic tide with a more open attitude and a broader pace and striding at the forefront of a new journey of development.
