The hi-tech industry in east China’s Jiangsu province reported steady growth in the first three quarters of this year, making greater contribution to the province’s technological innovation for high-quality development, according to statistics released by the Provincial Science and Technology Department recently.
In the first three quarters of this year, the output value of high-tech industries in the province increased by 9.6% year-on-year, 0.9 percentage points higher than the entire industrial economy, and 2 percentage points faster than that in the first half of the year.
Behind the rapid growth is the emergence of new technologies and new products, as is evidenced by the accelerating pace of industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.
Up to now, the province registered 462,800 patent applications, 229,400 patent grants, 156,600 invention patent applications, and 3792 PCT patent applications, reporting overall substantial growth.
The 165 major scientific and technological achievements transformation projects funded by the provincial science and technology department have come up with 1,895 patent applications and 1,513 new target products while increasing sales revenue of 18.534 billion yuan.
Enterprises are the mainstay of innovation, which has prompted Jiangsu to accelerate the cultivation of innovative enterprise clusters with high-tech enterprises as the mainstay. Since the start of this year, the province registered 3,734 new hi-tech firms, up 19% from a year ago and adding up to a total of 13,000.
23 firms in Jiangsu were listed on the new three board market between January and August to add up to 547. The corporate independent innovation capability has also been enhanced continuously. 90% of the large and medium-sized enterprises and hi-tech enterprises have launched their R&D institutions, ranking first in the country. 145 R&D institutions are ranked at the national level, ranking foremost in the country.
In the meantime, Jiangsu has also continued to optimize the innovation and entrepreneurial environment, as is evidenced by the number of 726 techno-incubators of various types. The numbers of incubators, the areas of the incubators and the number of the enterprises being incubated have continued to rank first in the country.
43.9 billion yuan of techno-loan has been granted to 5344 enterprises.
The province has also made steady progress in the pilot project of the science and technology system reform of the Provincial Industrial Technology Research Institute and the provincial technology property rights trading market, accelerating the formation of a good pattern of reform-driven innovation and innovation-driven development.
