Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT) unveiled the Institute of Artificial Intelligence on Sept. 20, following the similar moves at Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and other universities in Jiangsu Province.
It is reported that there are 367 universities with artificial intelligence academic programs in the world. The number of AI graduates is about 20,000 per year, which is far from meeting the market demand.
Professor Xue Yusheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, will provide guidance to works of personnel training, discipline development, and scientific research for the newly opened institute.
Professor Yue Dong, president of the institute and also a Yangtze River Scholar award winner, said the school will explore a new, integrated development model in terms of scientific research, personnel training and technology transformation in the field of artificial intelligence. The new undergraduate program AI and Technology at NJUPT has already strengthened the component of fundamental AI knowledge in the curriculum and also incorporated related fields such as automation, electrical engineering, instrument science and technology.
