Representatives of Nanjing Lukou International Airport held talks with their counterparts from more than 50 airlines and airports from Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania during the 2018 World Routes in Guangzhou from Sept. 16 to 18.
Along the introduction of economic development and tourism in Nanjing City and Jiangsu Province, the in-depth exchanges on development plans and progress for new flights will lay the foundation for the Nanjing airport to open more international routes.
World Routes is known as the “Olympics” and “World Expo” of the global civil aviation industry. Representatives of more than 300 airlines, 700 airport management bodies and 130 government departments and tourism authorities from more than 110 countries and regions attended the 24th World Route Development Forum themed “Meeting in Guangzhou, Connecting the World.”
The booth for Nanjing Lukou International Airport at the exhibition had elements that typify Nanjing such as the Ming City Wall and cloud-patterned brocade, a unique integration of the city’s local historical charms and booming growth. Visitors also enjoyed a tea art show, folk music performance and famous Nanjing snacks. To the delight of the forum’s participants, artisans also made Qinhuai lanterns, recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, on the spot. The efforts won the high praise from event organizers.
Nanjing Lukou International Airport currently runs over 260 routes, including 222 passenger routes, and has regular international and regional flights to Los Angeles, Frankfurt, Sydney, Vancouver, Helsinki, Milan, Moscow, Singapore, Bangkok and the Maldives as well as China’s Hong Kong, Macao, Taipei, Kaohsiung and other cities.
During the “13th Five-Year Plan” period from 2016-2020, the airport will accelerate opening new regular routes to Europe, North America, Africa, Australia and other locations including countries along the “Belt and Road” and strive to open up Middle East routes. It also plans to boost the number of Asian flights, improve the access to domestic third- and fourth-tier cities, and increase the frequency of flights to key cities.
