95-year-old veteran funds memorial pavilions out of patriotism

  Zhou Renfu, a veteran of the War of Resistance Against Japanese aggression, and a retired cadre from Xiangshui County, Yancheng City, has funded the building of several commemorative pavilions at his own expense which’s more than 100,000 yuan, in memory of the martyrs. It is understood that next year he will build another memorial pavilion on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Canal County Middle School in Xiangshui County, which will be his seventh self-funded pavilion.

  Right before the 87th anniversary of the September 18th Incident, the 95-year-old Zhou Renfu told people about the history of the War of Resistance in the pavilion he funded. Altogether, Zhou Renfu has built five commemorative pavilions in his home town for nearly 100,000 yuan, which have become important places for local people to carry out patriotic activities.

  Zhou Renfu told reporters that this year, in Han Dang Lotus Flower Resort, he has built another pavilion to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs. From now on, he will build one pavilion each year.

  Zhou Renfu was 16 years old when he joined the Eighth Route Army and participated in more than 10 major and minor battles. In 1958, he was responsible for the construction of Liuduo Middle School in Sheyang County. Later, he became the principal of four middle schools in Sheyang County including Liuduo Middle School, Qianqiu and Xiangshui Canal, and Zhouji middle schools. After his retirement, he began to help others and sponsored nearly 200,000 yuan from his retirement salary to public welfare activities such as helping students, repairing bridges and building pavilions. In September 2015, he was elected on the "List of Good People in China".
