With 60 days to go until the start of the first China International Import Expo that will be held in Shanghai from November 5 this year. As a "quasi-home" adjacent to Shanghai, East Chinas Jiangsu province is also fully engaged in the preparations for the Expo.

Jiangsu has established 16 trading delegations in order to seize the major opportunity of the first China International Import Expo and seek coordination with Shanghai. The delegations are launched by the 13 prefecture-level cities, provincial enterprises, Nanjing Jiangbei New Area and Suzhou Industrial Park.

At the same time, the province has launched the "1246" investment promotion plan by mobilizing 10,000 enterprises to sign up for the expo, organizing 25,000 professional visitors, and provide matchmaking sessions for 6,000 key enterprises to make procurement at the expo. The enterprises are centered on intelligent manufacturing, service trade, quality consumption, and medical and medical care. The ‘matchmaking sessions’ aim to help sellers and buyers understand each other, fully grasp business opportunities through communication and build friendly and cooperative win-win relationships.

In order to promote the transactions at the expo, the province will actively strive for the release of various financial support policies by guiding a number of financial institutions to introduce specific measures to support enterprises’ procurement.

According to the arrangement of the import fair, Jiangsu will hold a series of supportive activities such as "Intelligent Technology and Industry International Cooperation Forum", "China-Singapore Cooperation Service Trade Forum", "Cross-border E-commerce Import Commodities Purchasing Fair" during the import fair so as to give full play to the spillover effect of the import fair and create an environment conducive to the provinces expansion of opening up.

Preparations for the first China International Import Expo are seeing smooth progress with the expectation of a further opening up of the Chinese market thereafter.

The event, to be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, was first announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping a year ago. He called it “a major policy initiative and commitment to open up the Chinese market.”

The expo will host traders of both goods and services in areas that include advanced equipment, electronics, cars, consumer goods, food, medical instruments, technology services, design, education and tourism.

There will also be a forum to promote globalization and an open global economy.

Preparations for the expo include steps to attract global exhibitors and investors, to promote communication before the expo, to improve the city’s business environment, and to step up security measures.

The China International Import Expo Bureau said the number of exhibitors who registered surpassed expectation, with over 2,800 companies from more than 130 countries and regions signing up as exhibitors and 80 countries having confirmed they’ll take part in the national exhibition.

In terms of purchasers, data from the bureau showed that by August 7, more than 160,000 buyers from more than 80,000 domestic and overseas enterprises had signed up for the expo, exceeding the expected 150,000.
