China Railway Corporation and Jiangsu Provincial Government have approved the preliminary design plan for the Sunan Yanjiang High-speed Railway with construction to be started before the end of September.
A double-line high-speed railway is to be constructed for the Southern Jiangsu Riverside High-speed Railway with a design speed of 350 km/h. The length of the main line is 278.53 km.
Upon its completion, the railway will be the first of its kind to reach Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang from Nanjing, the provincial capital.
With a designed speed of 350 kilometer per hour, the railway starts at South Nanjing Railway Station in the west and ends at Pudong International Airport in the east.
Nine stations will be built along the route, including Jurong, Jintan, Wujin, Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang.
42 bridges will be built with a total length of 264.8 kilometers or 95% of the total length of the new railway. In addition, an 850-meter tunnel will be constructed.
When it’s completed, commuters will be able to reach Maoshan Hill, Chishan Lake, Jiulong Hill, Changdang Lake, Shanghai Disneyland and Pudong International Airport by the railway.
The planned rail network will form a high-speed rail connection in the city cluster along the Yangtze River to create "one-hour commuting circle” in the region.
Building Yangtze River city cluster will be conducive to economic integration and transformation and upgrading between South Jiangsu in the south of the Yangtze River and Central Jiangsu in the north of the River, experts say.
