Having been to Jiangsu for many times and witnessed the development and changes brought about by the reform and opening up, Tean Samnang, consul general of Cambodia in Shanghai, said that Jiangsu has played an exemplary role. He just attended the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia. He also said China is Cambodia's largest trading partner and Jiangsu Province has close relationships with Cambodia in economy, culture and other fields. During the 40 years of reform and opening up, Cambodia has also benefited from the rapid economic development of Jiangsu and China.
SSEZ: a model of pragmatic cooperation between China and Cambodia
Cambodia Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ), an economic and trade cooperation zone constructed by HOdo Group and other Chinese and Cambodian enterprises, is landmark project in the go-global strategy of Jiangsu companies. Chinese President Xi Jinping commented that "the booming SSEZ is a model of pragmatic cooperation between China and Cambodia."
After ten years of development, the SSEZ has attracted 125 enterprises to settle in, provided a large number of job opportunities to local residents, accelerated the economic development of Sihanoukville Province, and greatly improved the living standards of the local people.
“The SSEZ is of strategic significance for the development of Cambodia and we are very grateful to the enterprises and investors from Jiangsu,” said the consul general, adding the zone has become a business centerpiece in Sihanoukville and boosted its international image.
Harmonious commitment of government and its people
At the State Council’s national teleconference focused on administrative streamlining in this June, Jiangsu was commended for measures to transform government functions and boost market vitality. Tean Samnang said he heard of Jiangsu’s efforts in reform and development.
He believed that governments at all levels in Jiangsu are committed to bringing their services more close to the people, which has greatly promoted the province’s growth.
Jiangsu Medical team promotes people-to-people relation
On June 29, the fifth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Aid Medical Team arrived at the SSEZ Hun Sen Friendship School to offer free medical services. "Jiangsu's foreign aid medical team helps the Cambodian people to have a healthy lifestyle, brings hope to the local people, and is greatly welcomed by locals. Everyone is very grateful." While recognizing the economic and social benefits of bilateral cooperation, he also emphasized the importance of people-to people exchanges. He said that medical teams not only reflect the friendship at the country and province levels but also show the friendly exchanges between peoples of two countries.
He also said he’s deeply impressed by the Chinese Ancient Brick and Tile Museum, located in Jinxi Town of Kunshan City, because this private museum shows the voluntary protection of culture by the people of Jiangsu. He wants to pay a visit to the museum again when there’s chance.
