East China’s Jiangsu province held an ecological environmental protection and pollution prevention conference Wednesday in Nanjing.
Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, stressed at the meeting that it is necessary to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s thought on ecological civilization and the spirit of the National Ecological Environmental Protection Conference, enhance the sense of responsibility, win the battle against pollution, and strengthen the province’s ecological environment so as to make greater efforts to promote the construction of ecological civilization and make Jiangsu more eco-friendly.
Wu Zhenglong, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and governor, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.
Huang Lixin, chairwoman of the Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, attended the meeting.
Lou Qinjian pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core has put ecological civilization construction as an important part of the "five in one" overall layout and the "four comprehensive" strategic layout by proposing a series of new ideas.
The new strategy is fundamental and pioneering for the long-term work and transitional and overall changes in ecological environmental protection, which has formed Xi Jinping's Ecological Civilization Thought, and provide a powerful ideological weapon for the country to promote ecological civilization construction in the new era, Lou said.
Lou Qinjian stressed that Jiangsu has always been a place of prosperity, beauty, livability and fascination. The environmental quality of the province has continued to improve. However, environmental protection and ecological civilization construction is a long-term task with arduous and complex nature.
The CPC Provincial Chief noted that at present and in the future, it is necessary to thoroughly implement the spirit of Xi Jinping’s proposal for ecological civilization and his general instructions on the work of Jiangsu so as to solve more outstanding problems, improve the ecological environment, better meet the people’s demand for a better life and lay a solid foundation for building a well-off society at a high level and the development of a new Jiangsu.
Lou said it is necessary to proceed from the actual situation and act in accordance with the law, considers the rationality of the time limit for rectification, the accessibility of rectification objectives, the operability of rectification measures, the scientific and pragmatic promotion of environmental governance, and the promotion of long-lasting environmental protection.
Governor Wu demanded that more efforts to be made so as to win the battle against pollution and promote the high quality development across the province.
Vice Governor Miao Ruilin made specific requirements on the implementation of the opinions on the enhanced battle against pollution across the province.
