Duke Kunshan University Welcomes First Batch of Undergraduate Students

  Duke Kunshan University in Suzhou is jointly founded by Duke University, Wuhan University and the Kunshan Government. Last year, Duke Kunshan University officially launched its undergraduate degree program, and it welcomed its first batch of undergraduate students on Tuesday.

  The first batch of 266 undergraduates included 175 students from the Chinese Mainland, 10 students from China’s Taiwan, and 81 international students from 26 countries including the United States, South Korea and Pakistan. Graduates who complete a four-year course in both China and the United States will receive a bachelor's degree from Duke university and a bachelor's degree from Duke Kunshan University recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

  The undergraduate curriculum of Duke Kunshan University adopts the liberal arts education model of Duke University, so students can fully explore their interests by studying different courses, taking part in field trips and carrying out corporate internships. Students will choose major by the second semester of the second year in the university. Taiwan student Wang Yanjing chose here to study for this reason. “I wanted to go abroad, but maybe not yet. I hope I can grow up a little bit here and find my way around this place. That's what I want to do,” said Wang.

  Duke University is the only top 10 university in the United States that has established a Chinese-Foreign cooperative university and confers students Bachelor’s Degree. It is planned that by 2021, the campus size will be doubled, with undergraduate enrolment reaching 500 per year and undergraduate teaching staff expanding to 120 full-time professors.
