The Yanjiang Expressway will be expanded into eight lanes in both directions throughout the way and ten lanes in both directions in a 25-km section, sources said Sunday. The Yanjiang Expressway, connecting Taicang in the east and Changzhou in the west, was put into operation 14 years ago. The 134-km-motorway is designed with 6 lanes in both directions. The expansion will get underway by the end of next year. When the expansion is completed, it will become the first expressway in the province designed with 10 lanes in both directions, which is expected to help ease the traffic congestion heading for Shanghai and Nanjing after vehicles travel past the Sutong Yangtze River Bridge.
