The provincial government held a symposium Tuesday on the transformation and upgrading of the chemical, steel and coal-fired power industry.
Governor Wu Zhenglong attended the symposium, calling for the province to be guided by new ideas and new concepts, adhere to ecological priorities and green development, clarify our goals, focus on key points for steady implementation, continuously optimize the layout, speed up the transformation and upgrading, and promote the clustering of industries for the province’s high-level and high-quality development.
The governor was briefed on the growth momentum of the related sectors by the leading officials of the Provincial Commission of Development and Reform, the Provincial Economic and Information Committee, the Provincial Environmental Protection Department, the Provincial Communications Department and the Provincial Safety Supervision Bureau.
Wu Zhenglong pointed out that the chemical, steel, coal-fired power industries is an important part of the national economy and an important cornerstone of the province's real economy development.
He said we must effectively enhance the political stance, uphold the four consciousnesses, and implement the spirit of the important speeches of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping on the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and implement the Implementation Opinions on the Promotion of the Transformation and Upgrading of the Province’s Chemical, Steel and Coal-fired Power Industries for High-quality Development.
The Governor emphasized that it is important to adhere to the goal orientation and coordinate planning with a longer-term strategic vision, adding that the province will resolutely implement the requirements for the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt with no large-scale development projects, coordinate the conservation of the rivers and lakes, the regional resource endowments, the environmental capacity and comparative advantages, and the ecological space between production and living for the optimization of industrial layout, improvement of the access threshold, elimination of low-end obsolete production capacity, and promotion of overall improvement of industry technology.
Efforts should be made to increase the concentration of industries in the industrial parks, promote the clustering of industrial clusters, focus on the key tasks of the transformation and upgrading of the chemical, steel and coal-fired power industries, deepen the structural reform of the supply side, and further improve the core competitiveness of the industry and the development level of the park, the governor said.
Wu Zhenglong stressed that it is necessary to improve policy measures, implement stricter and higher environmental protection safety technology energy consumption standards, explore fiscal and taxation financial policies for the comprehensive utilization of land, energy and other indicators, treat both the symptoms and root causes, and promote the quality transformation of the chemical, steel and coal-fired power sectors towards higher quality, efficiency and effectiveness so as to move towards the high end of the global industry chain and value chain.
