Nearly 100 medical imaging experts from all over the province gathered in Nanjing last Saturday afternoon to discuss how to scientifically diagnose pulmonary nodules. The data show that there are about 100 million patients with pulmonary nodules in China. As a signal for diagnosing lung cancer, pulmonary nodule screening is crucial to ascertain whether the nodule is benign or malignant.

In China, lung cancer tops China's malignant tumor incidence rate. Early discovery, early diagnosis, early treatment can greatly improve the cure rate of lung cancer.

In the past, pulmonary nodule screening relied on the doctor's eye to observe one inch by one inch on the low-dose chest CT scan image, which was time-consuming and laborious.

Nowadays, with the application of artificial intelligence, doctors can identify in a few seconds whether there are pulmonary nodules and whether they are malignant or benign. Doctors will do a second screening on some nodules that are difficult to ascertain.

The homogeneity of artificial intelligence and the high level of doctors can greatly improve the accuracy of diagnosis.

Experts say there is no need to panic for tiny nodules less than 5 mm in the lungs because more than 90% are benign.

The nodule is highly likely to be malignant if it appears to be a mixed one of ground glass density. In addition, experts also cautionedthat for ordinary people, blind and excessive physical examination is more than necessary, but high-risk groups over 45 years old and with a family history of lung cancer and smoking more than 20 packs per year need to do low-dose spiral CT examination every year.

A total of 781,000 patients are diagnosed with lung cancer every year, giving it the highest incidence rate among China's malignant tumors, according to the National Cancer Center or NCC.
