Yangkou Port in east China’s Jiangsu Province launched the container business on Aug. 5 with the opening of the Yangkou Port-Shanghai Port Container Line.

Yangkou Port, located at the intersection of Yangtze River and Yellow Sea in Rudong County, is in the north wing of the Yangtze River Delta, one of China’s most economically developed areas.

It is 120 kilometers away from Shanghai on the land and 150 kilometers away from Shanghai Port through the sea. It boasts unique geographical advantages and robust growth and opens a new channel for Jiangsu economy to enter the larger market.

In August 2014, the State Council agreed to include Yangkou as a first-class port for opening up.

In the first half of 2018, the import and export volume through the port reached 2.849 million tons, up 66.2 percent year-on-year.

An official in Rudong County said that the new container route will further improve the functions of Yangkou Port, strengthen the county’s link with Shanghai, open a bridge to connect the world, and greatly facilitate local enterprises to better engage in foreign trade.
