Wujiang District has opened the first smart public toilet in Suzhou City, where residents can get free toilet paper by having the face scanned.

Surrounded by green plants, this smart toilet welcomes residents with a face recognition system installed on the wall. After finishing the face recognition and waiting for about three seconds, user can get the toilet paper about 70 cm in length from the machine.

Ma Shengwei, deputy director of the Taihu New Town Sanitation Center in Wujiang District, said this face recognition system was used to prevent the waste of the toilet paper.

The electronic display on the toilet’s door not only shows the vacancy but also the real-time data of the sewer gases including hydrogen sulfide and ammonia inside the facility.

Ma Shengwei said that the intelligent detection system will monitor ammonia 24/7 and cleaner will be sent once the smell is over the standard.

There is also an emergency alarm button inside the toilet. Once someone accidentally falls or needs toilet paper, they can press this button and a staff member will offer help.
