When a shipment of 9,265 Angus bulls imported from Uruguay arrived in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province on July 26, the local branch of Nanjing Customs opened up a green channel and effectively completed customs clearance and quarantine procedures.

Lianyungang is home to the largest import port for live animals in Jiangsu Province. This import marked the highest number of live cattle passing through the port. They arrived in China after the sea transportation for a long period. To reduce the time length at the port and minimize the impact of high temperatures over the bulls, the customs in Lianyungang initiated a fast-track mechanism even before their arrival, getting familiar with the import plan in advance, monitoring and offering guidance to manifests and customs declarations, and determining the proper supervision approach.

According to regulations, these bulls will be transported to two sites in Lianyungang and Yancheng for a 45-day quarantine. After the quarantine period is over, all bulls will be transported to Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, where they will be used in an Angus breeding program designed also to alleviate poverty.
