According to the Shanghai Railway Bureau, the northern tower on the Hutong (Shanghai-Nantong) Yangtze River Bridge under construction has reached 303 meters, overtaking the Sutong Yangtze River Bridge to claim the world’s No.1.

The bridge linking Shanghai to Nantong City of Jiangsu Province, crossing the greatest river in China, will measure a whopping 11,072 meters in length. The main bridge is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge that spans 1,092 meters and allows dual-use, with rails on the lower layer and a highway on the top. This is also the world’s first dual-use bridge that spans over 1,000 meters.

The bridge’s northern tower will finally reach 325 meters high in the future, or 333 meters plus the 8-meter-high sink foundation. Meanwhile, the construction of a new connection between Anting and Huangdu stations on the Beijing-Shanghai railway line also completed successfully, marking the start of linking the Shanghai-Nantong railway with Shanghai transportation hub.

The Shanghai-Nantong railway line will be 137.47 kilometers long and has a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour. It has nine stations including Pingdong, Nantong West, Zhangjiagang North, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, Taicang Port, Taicang, Taicang South and Anting West. The project has completed 72.96 percent of the total investment since the construction started on August 8, 2014.
