From July.30 to Aug.5, the 2018 Total World Badminton Championships will be held in the gymnasium of Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park. This is the highest level of badminton international A class competition in the world.
The 2018 Total World Badminton Championships attracts more than 370 world’s top athletes and coaches from over 40 countries and regions to come. Nanjing enjoys the repute as the cradle of world badminton champion in China; badminton has become a distinctive name card of Nanjing.
Zhang Xiaoqi, Secretary General of 2018 World Badminton Championships Committee, Party Secretary and Chairman of Nanjing Sports Industry Group said that, holding the World Badminton Championships has an important influence on improving the urban primacy ratio and internationalization level of Nanjing. Nanjing has superiorities on holding the World Badminton Championships; there are over 300 badminton clubs, more than 4,000 badminton courts, and over 2 million regular badminton exercise crowds in Nanjing, which means that Nanjing has excellent mass base of badminton sports, said Zhang.
After holding the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, the 2016 statistics show that, the total scale of Nanjing sports industry has reached 43.388 billion Yuan; the total scale of sports service industry has reached 26.331 billion Yuan, which accounts for 54.6% of the total added value of sports industry. The industrial structure is constantly being optimized. In the future, a number of major international competitions which have the mass base and commercial influence will be held in Nanjing, such as 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and 2020 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
