Lu Haining is playing badminton
Mandarin, Malay, English, Cantonese, Fujian dialect…for Lu Haining of Malaysian nationality, these languages are of no problem. Loving playing badminton, Haining gains a new role this year—being a 2018 Total World Badminton Championships small languages category volunteer.
Lu Haining is a Chinese of Malaysian nationality and is currently doing postgraduate at Nanjing Normal University. Haining has been loving playing badminton since she was little, and she has been putting badminton as an important extracurricular activity. “I finished my undergrad at Taiwan University, joined the Department team and the School team, and took part in many competitions”. Lu Haining tells the journalist that she is a member at the Badminton Association of Nanjing Normal University, and she usually plays badminton with classmates and friends from other schools. Because she likes badminton and can speak multiple languages, Lu Haining becomes a volunteer at this year’s World Badminton Championships.
“We have been learning Chinese, Malay, and English since a young age, and we also pick up some Cantonese, and other dialects like Fujian dialect in daily life”. Lu Haining says, this year’s Championships has the requirement of the service from small languages category volunteers, so she signed up to participate in the hope that she can contribute her own strength to the big game.
Talking about Nanjing, the place where the Badminton World Championships will be held, Lu Haining says, in the year that she lives in Nanjing, not only does she feel the city's classicality and vitality, but also feel the enthusiasm and kindness of Nanjing people. “I sometimes go to the badminton courts in downtown to play badminton and I sometimes play with unacquainted townspeople. They are very enthusiastic and are with good skills.”
Besides Lu Haining, this year’s Badminton Championships has many foreign volunteers.
In the recently finished “Nanjing Gathers the Youth∙ University Students’ Badminton Competition”, Hohai University won and received 3 direct opportunities to participate in the 2018 Badminton World Championships volunteer work. The volunteers will be trained to provide professional volunteer services in key positions for athletes, referees and technical officials.

Last August, he participated in the Southeast Asian Games. “I want to fight with peers from other schools. Hohai’s most recent group badminton championship was achieved four years ago by my seniors”. Nalati and his classmates say that gaining a championship is an opportunity to earn glory for the school, and they also hope to make more Chinese friends through the badminton competition.
