Share a new era of reading and start a beautiful new life. The 8th Jiangsu Book Fair opened at the Suzhou International Expo Center Sunday morning. What are the new highlights of this year's book fair? Let's go and take a close look.

The Jiangsu Venue saw the exhibition of books from Jiangsu, in particular the excellent works of Jiangsu writers in recent years. Most of the book fans are middle-aged and elderly people and students. Mr. Liu, who visited last year’s Jiangsu Book Fair, once again took his little granddaughter from downtown Suzhou to the book fair site early in the morning. After walking around for a few minutes, he had bought three books.

The book fair was hosted by the provincial government and sponsored by the Provincial Party Committee Publicity Department and the Provincial Press, Publication, Radio and Television Bureau.

More than 500 publishing units showed up at the exhibition venues that cover 17,000 square meters in total.

In the theme publishing hall, 11 special counters were set up to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx’s birth and celebrate the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up.

In the Book Fragrance Suzhou Pavilion, the elegant study room with unique characteristics of Suzhou and a wide range of literature books tells readers about book-style life in books and creativity, books and travel, books and intangible cultural heritages. In the "Wuxia or Martial Arts Pavilion", a group of martial arts featured books, cultural and creative content brought a new cultural consumption experience to Jiangsu readers.

On the opening ceremony of the book, the Provincial Press, Publication, Radio and Television Bureau released the results of the "2017 Reading Statistics off Jiangsu Residents". The survey showed that the comprehensive reading rate of residents in the province reached 88.79% in 2017, an increase of 2.67 percentage points over the previous year, and 8.49 percentage points higher than the national average.

People in Jiangsu read 13.26 books a year on the average, much higher than the national level of 5.48 books.

More people are choosing e-reading as the reading of e-books has exceeded the reading of paper books for the first time, indicating that digital reading has become the main form of reading life in Jiangsu.

The book fair runs for four days. A sub-venue is launched in Xuzhou city in north Jiangsu.
