Artificial intelligence has penetrated into all walks of life. At the 2018 International Conference on Frontiers in Intelligent Computing kicked off Wednesday in Nanjing, industry professionals from both home and abroad shared their thoughts and suggestions on how to expand more artificial intelligence applications, and how artificial intelligence further can help boost high-quality development.
Three Turing Award winners, a number of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering, and industrial tycoons were applauded by all the participants with their insightful thoughts and practical suggestions.
Data released at the summit shows the current global artificial intelligence market has exceeded 100 billion yuan with high concentration in smart medical care, smart homes, and automotive electronics. In the future, artificial intelligence will intersect with more industries to create new ones.
Under the wave of booming artificial intelligence, in recent years, Jiangsu has also regarded this industry as an important part of high-quality economic development. Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have established R&D institutions in Jiangsu. In May of this year, Jiangsu issued Opinions on the Implementation of Smart Industry Development to provide a series of policy support.
Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Suzhou Industrial Park, Changzhou Science and Education City and other places in the province have formed a number of artificial intelligence industrial clusters. The related business income has reached 23 billion yuan with industrial competitiveness and influence being established gradually.
However, experts pointed out that the current development of AI is challenged with a number of difficulties such as such as the scarcity of flagship enterprises, the shortage of leading talents and the lack of independent innovation capabilities.
