The 2018 World Historical and Cultural Cities Expo opened Friday night at the Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts. City mayors from 68 countries and regions and guests from home and abroad attended the opening ceremony.
The performances featured the elements of the classic Yunjin Brocade, the modern fashion show, the beautiful Kunqu Opera, and the exciting jazz dance. Eastern and Western elements, ancient and modern cultures, collided and blossomed at last night’s Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts.

The World Historical and Cultural Cities Expo has been successfully held seven times in Nanjing so far. The 2018 Expo will focus on the construction of the "Belt & Road" Initiative, preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of the sustainable development of cities. Du Yue, deputy director of the National Commission for UNESCO in China, said that the Expo will help deepen exchanges and dialogues among different civilizations and cultures, promote China's fine cultural traditions, and help historical and cultural cities in other countries to learn from each other's experiences in the protection of heritage.
The mayor of Mogilev city of Belarus said that the Expo will provide an important platform to discuss sustainable development among the countries of the Belt & Road Initiative. Nanjing and Mogilev city have been getting along for a long time. The hearts of the people are together, and the people-people exchanges become more frequently than ever. As a city with a history of 750 years, Mogilev deeply feels the importance of historical and cultural heritage to the development of the city. It is the cornerstone of the city's development.

Known as a mariner-diplomat, Zheng He set out from Nanjing for seven voyages across the Western Seas and visited dozens of countries along the road. His voyages marked the beginning of maritime diplomacy, contributing to the friendly relations between China and the rest of the world.

Nanjing Yunjin is among the top of the four most famous Chinese brocades. This cloth is made of the finest materials, consisting of gold and peacock feather yarn. Using sophisticated techniques, intricately colorful patterns are weaved into Nanjing Yunjin.
