Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, met Thursday in Nanjing with Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University.
Lou thanked Tsinghua University for its long-term support for the development of Jiangsu before introducing the province's efforts to promote high-quality development and speed up the construction of a "strong and prosperous" new Jiangsu under the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
He said it is of a matter of urgency to give full play to the role of the strong engine of technological innovation so as to promote the high quality of economic development, accelerate the transformation and upgrading and structural adjustment, and strive to build a modern industrial system that is self-controllable and internationally competitive.
The CPC provincial chief noted that Tsinghua University and Jiangsu have a good foundation for strategic cooperation, hoping that Tsinghua University would allocate more high-quality scientific research resources to Jiangsu to help the province improve international competitiveness by giving full play to the advantages of both parties, enhance the development level of innovative carriers, focusing on supercomputers, Internet research and application, strengthening cooperation in personnel training and exchanges and cooperation so as to work together to promote the construction of national science and technology innovation centers and provide strong support for Jiangsu’s high-quality development.
Qiu Yong stated that Tsinghua University attaches great importance to in-depth cooperation with Jiangsu, and will continue to deepen the cooperation in the development of integrated research in the Yangtze River Delta, supercomputers, Internet applications, high-level personnel training and other areas on the basis of strategic cooperation, build a major scientific and technological innovation platform, focus on upgrading the level of innovation carriers, promote province-university cooperation to a new level and make new contributions to Jiangsu's economic and social development.
Before the meeting, the provincial government, Tsinghua University, and Wuxi City jointly signed the "Memorandum on the Co-construction of the Tsinghua University Jiangsu Institute of Computer Science."
