According to a joint press conference organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Department and Huaian People’s Government on May 17, abundant intangible cultural heritages from 36 cities along the Grand Canal including the suona horn in Xuzhou City, puppet shows in Yangzhou City, Pingtan storytelling in Suzhou City, Xi Opera in Changzhou City, Chuzhou gong and drum show, Peking Opera, Huaihai Opera, Huai Opera, Huangmei Opera, the Hongze Lake fishing drum, Jinhu yangko, the Lianxiang dance in Minqiao Town, and acrobatics in Chouqiao Town will all be performed from June 1 to 3 in Huaian City.
Amid the great convergence of a wide range of art forms, the grand show will also invite craftsmen specialized in paper-cutting, weaving and carving on porcelain to interact with visitors. Organizers said the event has seven major activities including performances, exhibitions, interaction and lectures.
Huaian has six intangible cultural heritages listed at the national level, 33 at the provincial level and 202 projects at the city level.
