2018 the 2nd Shamrock Cup English Speaking Contest Final Competition was concluded Sunday morning at Nanjing University Gulou Campus. Contestants from Nanjing Dongshan Foreign Language School won the competition and a one-week study tour to Ireland.
Jointly sponsored by Jiangsu Foreign Affairs Office, Cork County Council and the Consulate General of Ireland in Shanghai, and organized by Nanjing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Nanjing Municipal Education Bureau,
Shamrock Cup English Speaking Contest embraced its final on May. 13 after its semi-final in April. Consul General of Ireland Consulate General in Shanghai, leaders from Jiangsu Foreign Affairs Office, judges, representatives of teachers and students participated and witnessed the competition.
30 contestants from 10 middle schools in Nanjing were singled out in the semi-final to compete for the championships. After excellent performances and witty answers in Q & A sessions, three contestants from Dongshan Foreign Language School demonstrated their understanding about Ireland and eloquence in English speaking and finally beat their rivalries, winning the one-week study tour to Ireland totally sponsored by Cork County Council.
The winners will have the chance to experience traditional Ireland companies, Irish dances, museums and meet their Irish counterparts. Carried out for the 2nd time, Shamrock Cup English Speaking Contest is a regular annual initiative to strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between Jiangsu and Cork.
Attracting a lot of attention, Shamrock Cup English Speaking Contest is also bridging Jiangsu with Cork to strengthen the sisterhood of the two sides and opening a window for people to understand each other.
