The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has announced that six open source technologies around the world have been qualified to receive the UNICEF Innovation Fund. The VR Creator from Suzhou International Science and Technology Park became the only Chinese project selected, with the other projects coming from India, Mexico, Argentina, the Philippines and Chile.
Currently, most of the VR tools worldwide are designed for adults, while VR Creator makes designs specially for children. The Blocks Programming software, developed by its creative team, makes it easy for children without any programming knowledge to implement the control commands in virtual reality, thus focusing on the creation of VR stories. The VR Creator's Source Library provides free VR panoramas, VR videos, 3D models, sound effects, music, etc. Children can create their own VR stories at will.
The head of the company said he hoped to work closely with global investors and partners in the future through the sources and investment platforms of UNICEF, to develop VR Creator into the most open and interesting VR tool in the world, allowing more children to tell their stories using VR technology.
The Innovation Fund of UNICEF focuses on technology start-ups that are in development, supporting solutions, especially open source technology solutions, that can improve the lives of disadvantaged children.
