The Institute of Chinese Sturgeon with China Three Gorges Development Co. Ltd. Group has set up a fixed monitoring station in Yangzhou to monitor the trajectory of the Chinese sturgeon, an endangered wild animal placed under protection at the national level.

In the upper and lower reaches of the Sanjiangying waters, the institute has set up three long barrel-shaped Chinese sturgeon detectors. According to the engineers, the wild Chinese sturgeon is mainly distributed in the Yangtze River basin and offshore waters of China.

In the summer and autumn, the Chinese sturgeon migrates to the Yangtze River and returns to the Jinsha River to lay eggs. In recent years, the water quality of Yangzhou section of the Yangtze River has been greatly improved, and the environment is also suitable for Chinese sturgeons to reproduce so that more and more Chinese sturgeons will enter the Manao River for a short stay.

It is worth mentioning that the Sanjiangying waters, which is set up as the monitoring point for Chinese migratory waters, is the water source for the national east-to-north water transfer project where many stable populations of finless porpoise have been discovered. The Yangzhou Maritime Department stated that it will continue to adhere to the prevention and control of water pollution control and make the Jianghuai Ecological Corridor the charming and harmonious homeland for aquatic creatures in the Yangtze River.
