Nanjing now has 26,949 new energy cars, which accounted for 30 percent of all new energy cars in Jiangsu and made the city rank first in the province, according to a report released on March 21 by the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co. describing its support to sustainable economic growth and social development.
Since the first quarter, Nanjing had more than 100 applications to install electric vehicle charging stations in residential communities, almost equal to the number of total applications all of last year. Technicians said family users can choose 7 kW EV charger and it costs about 25 yuan ($3.96) to fully charge the car for a 300-km range.
The report also said the power company now provides fast-track procedures on application, inspection, construction and installation for those who want to have charging stations in their garage or in a community.
The State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power is making new efforts to expand the number of charging stations to meet growing demand. All service zones along the expressways in Jiangsu have charging stations, 189 in total, for quick self-help services. Jiangsu also has 298 urban charging stations with another 102 stations for buses. The downtown areas in Nanjing and Suzhou provide a charging station within every area 2 kilometers in diameter. For other cities, people can find a charging station within a downtown area of 3 kilometers in diameter.
The electricity authorities plan to establish 153 new charging stations and 1,870 chargers this year.
