There are still some days from the annual lantern festival lanterns but many people have begun to choose lanterns for their children in advance. The lantern market has also heated up in many parts of the province.
Large and small boxes were filled with lanterns of colorful varieties inside the shops of Qujiang Commodity Market in Yangzhou city.
Most customers are retailers from surrounding towns and the residents will wait for several days before coming here to select their favorite lanterns, said a wholesaler.
Compared the hot sales of overall plastic lanterns a few years ago, hand-made lanterns are now obviously much favored by the customers due to the manufacturing process improvement with cloth replacing paper and built-in acousto-optic devices added to make the lanterns more beautiful and more solid.
The ban on setting off fireworks during the spring festival has made the festive lanterns all the more popular, according to the wholesalers.
