Feb 8th, the primary and middle school students taking part in the “Young International Friendship Messenger” Winter Camp were experiencing the traditional Chinese custom.
It’s the traditional Chinese ritual to make paper-cutting, write calligraphy of character Fu which means prosperity, and eat dumplings on 23rd of twelfth lunar month. This occasion fell on Feb 8 this year. On this day, 38 primary and middle school students from more than 10 countries and regions participated in the first “Young International Friendship Messenger” Winter Camp, which is sponsored by Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Friendship Association, and Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Affairs Translation Center.
Luna, a French girl from the fourth grade of British school in Nanjing, was studying paper-cutting. Her “little teacher” was Sun Miaoyan, a sixth-grader from Fangcaoyuan Primary School, Nanjing. With the instruction of the calligraphy teacher, Luna also completed her first calligraphy work, “Fu”.
Italian girl Sophia is a sixth-grader at Nanjing International School. Having been in China for seven months, she gave a fluent self-introduction in Chinese and wished everybody presented a happy new year. Enjoying the dumplings made by herself, Sophia said “It’s different for Chinese people to express their joy and happiness, but i still like it. It’s the first time our family spending the Spring Festival here in China, papa and mama are thinking about inviting our friends over for a big meal.”
One day was short but also long enough for our young messengers to know each other and become good friends.
