People in east China’s Jiangsu province are getting ready for the Laba Porridge Festival, which falls on the eighth day of the 12th lunar month. This year’s Laba Festival falls on January 24th.
Local residents were seen selecting the coarse cereals for the cooking of the special porridge for Laba Festival.
The ingredients for the laba porridge include varied coarse cereals that are highly nutritious, according the salespersons. The prices of the coarse cereals have shot up as supply is running short.
Many people in Wuxi were seen selecting coix seed, Chinese dates, peanut and millet, the basic materials for the making of laba porridge.
Residents in Changzhou city have got used to boiling the laba congee by adding plum into the traditional ingredients. Many people will add varied kinds of nutritious foodstuff into the porridge to help people keep healthy in winter.
The laba porridge or La Ba Zhou is special. In Chinese, La means the 12th lunar month, Ba means eight and Zhou means porridge. La Ba Zhou refers to a kind of porridge which is served on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month.
