Around the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and the country’s 4th National Memorial Day ceremony for the massacre victims, China Association of Civil Claim for Compensation against Japan sent a letter to Embassy of Japan in Beijing, China claiming an official apology and compensation.

72 years ago, the Japanese armed forces made an unconditional surrender, and Japanese government should apologize and should say sorry for the war crimes it committed. On the contrary, Japanese government keeps finding excuses, avoiding accusations, and attempting to revive the military. Tong Zeng, chairman of China Association of Civil Claim for Compensation against Japan, wrote in his letter to Yokoi Hiro, Japan's ambassador to China.

Again, in this letter, Japanese government is called to make an official apology and compensation to Chinese people.

This is the 3rd time that China Association of Civil Claim for Compensation against Japan addresses this issue and Embassy of Japan in China has received this letter.

Tong Zeng, who initiated this cause demanding compensation and apologies from Japanese government in 1990s, has received thousands of letters in favor of him. In the letters from the victims or their families, horrifying atrocities and tremendous sufferings have been exposed to the public.

In an interview by CNS, Tong Zeng stated that the cause they’re taking is in complete accordance with international laws and postwar terms. Japanese militarism, responsible for wartime wrongs during World War II, should be punished by international humanitarian law. Germany, another major defeated power in World War II, has won respect by addressing its war crimes.

We call for an official apology from the Japanese government for the massacre it committed during World War II, and we also hope a good Sino-Japan relationship could be maintained forever. Tong said.
