Marking the 80th anniversary of the brutal massacre in Nanjing by Japanese invaders during WW, the one-hour docu-drama, Scars of Nanking, will premier on December 13th, 2017 on History Channel in the U.S., History Asia Chanel and Jiangsu Satellite TV in China simultaneously.

Scars of Nanking tells the story that American missionaries struggle to save Chinese civilians from slaughter and rape at the hands of Japanese invaders—and to smuggle out evidence of the infamous Nanking Massacre of 1937.

It is the first time that Nanking Massacre has been presented as a documentary on the screen of overseas mainstream media. Meanwhile, the premier is set to be on China’s 4th National Memorial Day of Nanking Massacre.

Historical Background

During the Second World War, the International Committee was established in order to establish and manage the Nanking Safety Zone. Many Westerners were living in the city at that time, conducting trade or on missionary trips. As the Japanese army began to approach Nanking, most of them fled the city. A small number of Western businessmen, journalists and missionaries, however, chose to remain behind. To coordinate their efforts, the Westerners formed a committee, called the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone.
