The county of Funing in north jiangsu has made headway in the post-disaster reconstruction in the wake of the devastative tornado that hit the county on June 23 last year.
Authorities in Funing have launched a three-year resettlement plan to relocate the tornado victims from the debris to the newly-built houses in 98 resettlements.
Zhu Jicai, an 80-year-old farmer, has moved to his new home which is 102 square meters in size. Previously he and his wife lived in a 48-sq-meter bungalow. Zhu spent 130,000 yuan on the new home with the rest of the money paid through the subsidies from the village and township authorities.
57 days after the tornado disaster, authorities in Funing released a three-year plan to refurbish the dilapidated houses in the rural areas.
The resettlements are built on the basis of being safe, economical and affordable while efforts have been made to ensure that 80% of the new homes are self-contained.
With the investment of 1.75 billion yuan, 1.05 million square meters of new homes have been built in 98 resettlements that can withstand the impact of level 12 typhoons. In the meantime, the surroundings have been improved with 35% the open land covered by greeneries.
