East China’s Jiangsu province will wrap up rice harvest in the coming days by taking advantage of the recent spell of fine weather.
A farming cooperative in Jinhu County has set all the harvesting machines into full gear to reap the rice by racing against time.
The late maturing varieties grown over 146 hectares do not come into maturity until the end of November, said the head of the cooperative.
17 combine harvesters were working in full gear while the operators would have meals in the fields to ensure that the work was done as soon as possible.
Four fertilizing machines, 12 rotary tillers and four seeding machines were also working in the fields so that the sowing can be done in the second day after the rice is reaped.
Mechanic and manual labors were employed by authorities in Jurong County to rush-harvest the paddy rice as the harvesting machines were kept working from nine in the morning to seven in the evening.
97% of the paddy rice in Jiangsu has been harvested while 94% of the wheat sowing has been done, the provincial agricultural commission said.
