East China’s Jiangsu province reported steady growth in its imports and exports in the first ten months of this year, data from the Nanjing Customs show.
The foreign trade volume in Jiangsu totaled 3.25 trillion yuan in the ten-month period, up 19.8% from a year ago and accounting for 14.4% of the national total.
Exports grew 17% year on year to hit 1.99 trillion yuan while imports grew 24.6% to hit 1.25 trillion yuan.
The export of electric and mechanic products, which make up 65% of the province’s total export, reached 1.29 billion yuan during the period, up 17.1% from a year ago.
Mobile phones, tablet computers and laptop computers contributed the most to the growth of exports during the period. Imports of some bulk commodities and electronic products have also kept growth momentum.
The province’s export to the US, EU, ASEAN, South Korea and Japan registered positive growth with the contracted volume accounting for 65% of the provincial total during the ten-month period.
State-level economic and technological development zones and high-tech zones played an important role in the development of the export-oriented economy by registering 674.59 billion yuan of imports and exports during the ten-month period, up 20.2% from a year ago. The figure is also 0.4 percentage points higher than the provincial average and making up 20.7% of the provincial total.
