"Badawan" in Yancheng city, Jiangsu province, meaning “eight big bowls”, is a series of courses comprising both soup and main dishes. The dishes have become a collective trademark approved by China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce. This is the first such collective trademark for a local dish and the first trademark in Yancheng’s traditional food industry.

The courses include fried pork rinds, glutinous rice meat balls, mussel radish, shredded chicken with vermicelli, fried eggs, taro shrimp soup, braised pork in brown sauce and braised carps in brown sauce.

Wang Wenbin, deputy director of the Food Industry Association of Yancheng, said Yancheng cuisine’s distinct features are soup and the original taste of the ingredients, making badawana very good example of Yancheng cuisine.

The eight courses were used mainly at local weddings, funerals and banquets in Yancheng in early years.
