Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, paid a visit Thursday to Zhou Enlai’s Memorial and former residence during an inspection tour to Huai’an city, Jiangsu province.
Lou stressed the importance of carrying forward the Zhou Enlai spirit and encouraged party members and cadres never forget why you started and your mission can be accomplished. He also demanded that cadres and party members should inherit the glorious revolutionary tradition, always firmly believe in the ideals and lead people to create new brilliance in the new era
At 2:30 Thursday afternoon, Lou arrived at the memorial, stood in silence and presented a basket of flowers in front of the statute of Zhou Enlai. He then took three bows in front of the sitting statue in a sign of cherishing the tremendous contributions Zhou made to the country during his lifetime.
Zhou Enlai was born in Huaian, Jiangsu province, on March 5, 1898. As a prominent Communist Party of China leader, he was Premier of the People's Republic of China from 1949 until his death. Throughout his whole life, Zhou Enlai devoted himself to state affairs, and he spent his last 26 years of service as the premier of the People's Republic of China.
Premier Zhou was among the best-known Chinese statesmen in the world. He was internationally recognized for the proposal of the "Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence," a standard of international relations that originally served to guide the China-India relationship in 1953. Zhou's iconic handshake with the United States' President Richard Nixon in 1972 was a key moment that signaled a thaw in China-U.S. diplomatic tensions.
Lou Qinjian noted that Comrade Zhou Enlai is a model, an outstanding representative of the Communists and a lofty example for the party and government cadres to follow.
He demanded that people in Jiangsu should make great efforts to carry forward the Zhou Enlai spirit and strive for greater development in Zhou’s hometown by following the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping.
