An award ceremony for the 2017 National Ecological Garden City and China Habitat Award was held in Guangzhou of South China’s Guangdong province on Oct 31. During the ceremony, Zhangjiagang city in Jiangsu province was granted the title of “National Ecological Garden City”.
Zhangjiagang has insisted on a development strategy that prioritizes the environment, rationally planning for green space in its cities and towns, vigorously promoting connections and repairs of water systems, and promptly investigating and punishing illegal actions that damage green areas and rivers.
In addition, it has constantly improved its supporting infrastructure and integrated its rural farmlands, water areas, wetlands and scenic spots as well as various urban green areas into a complete system. As a result, the city has boasted a coordinated and highly efficient urban and rural ecological system.
