The phase-I project of the National Health & Medical Big Data Exhibition Center has been put into operation in the Jiangbei New Area of Nanjing to help people play a more proactive role in taking ownership of their own health these days as more information is available at their fingertips.
The National Health & Medical Big Data Exhibition Center was built with a total investment of 6 billion yuan. The Center has a unified storage capacity of up to 52PB.
Unified storage is a shared storage device that replaces file servers & consolidates data for applications & virtual servers onto a single platform.
In the future, the personal health records and electronic medical records of the 80 million people in Jiangsu will be kept here alongside with the imaging data from 174 first class hospitals across the province.
The information will mainly include the patient's treatment, medication, diagnosis and all kinds of ultrasound imaging ray films.
The center will also store the clinical data of about 4.6 billion people in eastern China to come up with the largest human genome sequencing center in China.
At present, the sequencing center has installed 50 sets of genetic testing equipment with the annual sequencing capacity to be made available to up to 400,000-500,000 people. Medical experts will be able to conduct symptomatic treatment based on the information deciphered by genetic sequencing.
Gene sequencing can also play a role in the therapeutic stages for the treatment of tumors and rare diseases. The exhibition center will also bring into full play the advanced technologies to present the development process and achievements of big data in the field of health care and its applications.
