East China’s Jiangsu province held a meeting Tuesday on the promotion of ecological protection and conservation by selecting pilot zones for environmental governance and green economic development for the creation of an ecological and livable province.

As one of the province’s first pilot areas of eco-conservation, Wujin district of Changzhou city has been accelerating the promotion of seven kinds of projects such as fresh water, industrial greening and energy cleaning since the start of this year.

In late September, the work on the dredging of a local river went underway. Due to the introduction of environmental-friendly dredging and sludge dewatering and solidification treatment technologies, the dredgers only need to stir the river bottom mud to make the mud drained through the pipeline to the back-end processing system.

After the preliminary process of waste separation, concentrated precipitation and high efficiency belt filter dehydration, the slurry with water content of up to 90% was turned into sludge with water content of less than 40%. The purified tail water then bubbles out of the outfall.

The establishment of the pilot zones has been listed as one of the key tasks for the promotion of ecological conservation in Jiangsu. More ecological conservation areas will be launched in upstream of Taihu Lake and the important ecological functional area in northern Jiangsu with preferential policies in finance, technology, land resources and talent guaranteed by the provincial authorities.
