The first swivel-type elevated railway section was successfully swiveled to its final position over the Xin-Chang railway from its original position parallel to the Xin-Chang railway. The section features a pier for the under construction Xuzhou-Huai’an-Yancheng railway line, or Xu-Yan railway, which will pass over the existing Xin-Chang railway. The swiveling has established a base for the whole railway line’s construction, according to Jiangsu media on Oct 16.
The 11th Bureau of the China Railway Construction Company, responsible for the section’s construction, optimized the section’s special construction schemes, including the center load-bearing method for the section’s pier and the section’s balanced swivel to its final position. In the end, the 5,440-ton section, consisting of a pier, a main part and a swiveling disc at the pier’s top, stood precisely at its final position over the Xin-Chang railway, after its 101-meter-long main part was horizontally swiveled 58 degrees counter-clockwise.
An important part of China’s railway network construction plan, the 316-kilometer Xu-Yan high-speed railway with a designed speed of 250 kilometers per hour is a trunk transport line to achieve the economic integration between North Jiangsu and the Yangtze River Delta areas. To date, all piers for the elevated Xu-Yan railway have been built, and the construction of its railroad sections is now underway. It is estimated that the railway will complete construction by the end of 2019.
