Jiangsu should strive to promote the development of modern marine economy and highlight the characteristic advantages in the construction of the coastal economic zone in the promotion of the 1+3 strategy for the key functional areas. The remarks were made by Li Qiang, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, during his inspection tour Monday in Nantong.
In his first leg of the inspection tour, Li Qiang visited the container operation area of the Nantong Port Harbor in spite of the rainfall.
The operation area spans across two national development zones of Nantong and Haimen and lies adjacent to 12.5-meter-deepwater channel of the Yangtze River.
Li made a detailed understanding of port planning and construction and current freight situation before inspecting land construction scene of the operation area.
Nantong is located in the crucial point of the coastal economic zone with its geographical conditions being constantly improved, the CPC provincial chief said.
He called on the port authority to take advantage of its coastline resources by boosting integration and improving efficiency for the making of a most convenient, most economical and most developmental port with the support of a multimodal transport system with port as its core to stimulate the development of the 1+3 strategy for the key functional areas.
Li Qiang later paid a visit to Nantong COSCO Kawasaki Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. and Nantong Zhongji Energy Equipment Co., Ltd.
He made a careful inquiry into Nantong COSCO’s ongoing project to build the world's largest container ship with independent intellectual property rights and spoke favorably of the company’s continuous promotion of its role as a hi-tech intensive, value added and energy efficient shipbuilder.
The CPC provincial chief learned about the special transportation equipment designed and produced by Zhongji before being briefed on the market sales and the industry prosperity.
Li concluded his visit by making an inspection of the forecast center of the marine environmental monitoring central station of the State Oceanic Administration where he was briefed on the marine environmental monitoring, the trends of coastal water quality change and marine forecasting and mitigation.
To develop the modern marine economy, we must protect the marine ecological environment, promote the pollution control in the inshore area, strengthen the protection of coastal land, tidal flat and shoreline so as to leave valuable ecological wealth for future generations, the CPC chief said.
Li Qiang also summoned a forum during his inspection tour to gain a deeper understanding of the social and economic work in Nantong.
He called on the local governments to give a stronger impetus to the development of the marine economy by exploring new development paths to form the unique advantages of the respective industrial sectors.
