Taicang agrees friendly ties with Canadian city

  Ronnie LeBlanc, mayor of Clare, a district municipality in western Nova Scotia, Canada, led a delegation to Taicang, Jiangsu province on Sept 7 to ink a memorandum with the municipal government.

  The Memorandum on the Establishment of Friendly Cities between Taicang and Clare states that on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and voluntariness, the two cities will promote exchanges between their governments and civil organizations.

  The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in sci-tech, education, innovation, culture, trade, investment and other fields to achieve common development and prosperity.

  With friendly relations, practical exchanges and cooperation, the two sides could bid to become sister cities in the future.

  Clare covers an area of more than 500 square kilometers (50,000 hectares). Seafood is one of the city's mainstay industries, much of which is exported to China. The city enjoys a long history and next year marks the 250th anniversary of its establishment.

  Ronnie said that Taicang is a developed city in China with perfect planning and clean environment and that Clare is happy to strengthen economic and trade cooperation to promote exchanges in culture and education.
