The 2017 World Internet of Things (IoT) Expo kicked off in Wuxi city, Jiangsu Province on Sep 10th. The secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Li Qiang, made an inspection tour to the expo in the afternoon. The data shows that 670,000 people went to the expo on the first day.
Big data, artificial intelligence, virtual reality… All those technologies have attracted many people’s attention when they are combined with the IoT. So, what are some of the new things that attract Secretary Li’s attention? Let’s have a look!
Alibaba has successfully caught secretary Li’s attention by its credit system. Moreover, Alibaba also brought shared systems like shared bookroom, shared umbrella, shared power bank and so on. You only have to scan Alipay’s QR code to borrow books in shared bookrooms.

How creative is Alibaba?
Apart from credit system, Alibaba also brought the cloud system for public transportation. With the model of “credit+intelligence+transportation”, the passengers will get a code for public transportation once their credit is qualified. Scan the code when they get on the bus and pay it afterwards. Delayed payment will also be acceptable if the 4G signal is not good. Some cities like Nanjing, Hangzhou and Qinhuangdao have already applied the system.
The township system brought by China Mobile is another sensation of the expo. One can clearly tell the different data in a small town of Wuxi city. It covers all aspects of the town including tea garden management, aquiculture, community management, water monitoring, and tourism.
One representative from China Mobile said that the system will build different internet of things based on each town’s characteristics.
What else by China Mobile?
The remote operation system for car-driving is another highlight brought by China Mobile. It simultaneously analyzes the traffic condition by using the internet of things and 5G technology. In the future, calling shared cars back or doing tasks in extreme environments could be done by remote driving.
Different from China Mobile’s “small yet intensive” system, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) caught secretary Li’s attention by its “big yet broad” system. HPE UloT is a platform that connects the whole world, including aspects like parking, medicine, personal security, environment and factories. It will offer solutions to city development based on its huge data.
How many partners does HPE have?
Used to be part of HP, HPE still has close relations with many leading brands in the field of internet of things. Nokia, Alibaba, PTC are all HPE’s partners! And it’s by cooperation that HPE could build a database that covers the whole world. It now has many clients from the US and India.
While others sell products and ideas, Inspur Group sells data. The blue screen shows the big data of every aspect of China, which attracts secretary Li.
Inspur has agreed to settle in Wuxi city last year. It will support Wuxi’s economic transformation and internet ecological development in the next 3 to 5 years.
Inspur’s promise to Wuxi
Inspur Group and Wuxi Government have signed an agreement for strategic partnership. They will deeply cooperate in the field of big data. According to the agreement, they will build anInspur industrial park of big data together with total investment of 5.5 bln RMB (about 840 mln USD).
Shanghai Huahong Integrated Circuit Co., Ltd. also brought their independently-developed chips. They said it’s the first time that they have been willing to attend an expo outside Shanghai.
Representatives from Huahong showed the application of the chip: ID card, social security card, bank card, SIM card and so on. Moreover, the information stored in the chips will be highly confidential as the chips are developed independently and evaluated by the national government.
What makes Huahong a pioneer?
Shanghai Huahong Integrated Circuit Co., Ltd. was founded in 1996. It is one of the fruits brought by the project “909”. It plays a leading role in producing 8-inch chips, developing integrated circuits and applying AFC and RFID systems. Over half of the phone chips in China are produced by Huahong.
Envision Energy, which has already opened its branches in Wuxi also brought its latest development – solar electric panels as thin as sheets of papers. Even secretary Li couldn’t help touching it. The specialist from the company said these panels could stick onto the wall and generate electricity. Meanwhile, the generating capacity and power consumption could be monitored as well.
Envision is the real tech-nerd
Envision Energy is the largest offshore wind turbine provider in China. It designed and developed “smart wind turbine”, increasing the efficiency of wind power generation by 20%. The pioneering low-speed wind turbine makes it possible to develop over 60% of the windless area. Envision Energy has built an industrial park in Jiangyin city of Wuxi and offered a set of plans which could save over 30% of the energy used in the park.
Which of the exhibitors that caught secretary Li’s attention attracts you?
The 2017 World Internet of Things Expo has 5 exhibition halls which takes 50,000 m2 of land and attracts more than 500 enterprises home and abroad. It manifests the current situation and future development of the internet of things. The IoT is not a mystery but a foreseeable future.
