Dr. Martin Lockstrom, Director of Xu Corporate Education (China) gave some examples of IoT application in his homeland Sweden during the 2017 World Internet of Things Exposition on Sept. 11.

One is price tagging which is now very common in Sweden’s supermarket. The electronic price tag is like a LCD display, and can be updated on the store shelf automatically. “You don’t need have someone to stick the price tag. When there is a discount, you just go to the computer and update the price tag on the LCD display,” said Dr. Martin.

House surveillance is another example. “It’s becoming a mainstream in Sweden. Almost every family has it right now.” People can lock and unlock the door and window, switch on the light and check the house camera via a mobile phone app.

“Predicative maintenance is becoming a strong trend in B2B business,” said Dr. Martin. Equipped with sensors, the machinery can tell you how it is performing, and whether it needs maintenance. “It asks you to do things before things happen.”

Dr. Martin suggests China’s small and medium-sized enterprises should make better use of IoT new technologies. The equipments might be expensive to buy, but it will help to improve efficiency, and reduce the probability of production line breakdown. Then these technologies may be cheaper in the long run. It pays off.
